Birgit Böhme studied cello with Wolfgang Boettcher in Berlin and Mara-Luise Ewald in Weimar. She was repeatedly awarded the first prize at the German Young Musicians Competition "Jugend musiziert"and complemented her studies by participating in master classes with Gerhard Mantel, Heinrich Schiff and Boris Pergamenschikow. As a guest musician, she was invited to perform with the Ensemble Modern, the Ensemble Oriol and the German Symphony Orchestra, which supported her through a "Ferenc Friscay" scholarship.
Further awards include a scholarship sponsored by the "Deutsche Bank" and the "Carl Flesch" Prize, which was awarded at the "International Musiksommer Baden-Baden". Solo appearances led her to engagements with the Munich Philharmonics, the "Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra SaarbrĂĽcken" and the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, to name but a few.
At the moment, Birgit Böhme holds the position of solo cellist in various Chamber Orchestras. Her focus, however, has always been chamber music. International concert tours have led her to perform in Africa and South America. Her versatility as a chamber musician is further illustrated by frequent invitations to Summer Festivals and a number of radio recordings. She is a founding member of he Faust Quartet and plays a cello manufactured by Heinz Hammig, Dresden.
